NFL has its first black president
The Washington football team has named Jason Wright as their president, making him the first black president of the NFL. Wright is a former NFL running back and also served as NFLPA in 2009 while being a member of Arizona Cardinals. He retired from the NFL in 2011 after a seven-year career. After his playing career, Wright graduated with his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
The football team has been under a lot of scrutinies lately. For years, fans from around the league have been pressuring them to change their team named, [Redskins], because many people deem the name racially offensive. The team would always respond and say they will be keeping the name because of the historic meaning that tied to the team. However with the recent riots, and dismantling of many statues of former slave owners, it was only a matter of time before the logo and name would be changed.

In July, due to the pressure of numerous sponsors, the team was forced to change its name and logo. They have yet to decide on a name or logo, so as of now they will just be known as The Washington Football Team. According to a 2014 ESPN report, African Americans make up 68% of the league. With Black people being the majority race, by a long shot; it is a travesty that African Americans aren’t more represents in front offices. Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come in the future; not only in the NFL but in the NBA as well. Congratulations to Jason and his family on shifting the culture.
