Verzuz Returns for Season 2
Last week, T.I. gracefully bowed out of a Verzuz battle between himself and Busta Rhymes. T.I.’s reasoning was that the generation gap between Busta and himself was too wide for the competition to make sense. He compared it to “showing up to a present-day Pop Warner football game as an adult”.
Shortly after T.I.’s comments, Jeezy shared his own Instagram video saying he was ready to square off in a Verzuz battle. Though Jeezy didn’t mention specific names, Tip questioned whether the post was referencing him.
The battle we’ve all been waiting on… T.I. vs Jeezy!
On Saturday, Verzuz announced that it would be returning for Season 2. The next installment will feature T.I. and Jeezy battling over their biggest hits. T.I. shared the news to his Instagram page, simply writing, “YKWTFGO” in his caption, while Jeezy said, “What’s a KING without a Crown.”
“Now let’s see how much heat it takes to melt this snow,” Tip wrote in an earlier Instagram post (prior to the confirmed battle) referring to Jeezy’s alter ego, the Snowman.
The self-proclaimed “King of the South” T.I. dropped his 11th studio album The L.I.B.R.A. just over a week ago. It had been 2 years since he dropped his album The Dime Trap. This album, The L.I.B.R.A., is primarily focused on the legacy of T.I. and not the legend.
The album features T.I.’s children Domani and Deyjah and two tracks were produced by his oldest son Messiah. It also features Lil Baby, Rick Ross, Snoop Dogg, Benny the Butcher, Jadakiss, and more.
Jeezy surprised us with the release of the seven-track project Twenty/20 Pyrex Vision in late March. The album marked the rap icon’s first release since he parted ways with his label home of nearly 16 years, Def Jam, in late 2019.
Jeezy became a trending topic on Twitter after the release of the album. His fans wanted to know what “sound” he would bring to the new decade and he did not disappoint. He recently released his single “Back” featuring Yo Gotti.
VERZUZ has hosted a number of heavy-hitters such as Atlanta’s own 2 Chainz and Rick Ross, old-school hip hop artists DMX and Snoop Dogg, and the R&B Divas Brandy and Monica. The most recent installment featured soul singers Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight, which included a surprise appearance from Dionne Warwick.
