Trump Banning Tiktok
Back in August, President Trump made an announcement about banning TikTok if it was not purchased by a US company. However, he never actually followed through with the plan and lengthened the date it had to be bought by.
Trump is now revisiting the idea due to matters that involve the press. It was rumored, a technology company “Oracle” is now Tiktok’s new business partner, after the outbidding of the company “Microsoft”. Even though the company is willing to buy Tiktok, it is seen Trump may ban the app either way.
On Friday, the Trump administration announced the news, that users will no longer be able to install the app. Along with the ban of Tiktok, another Chinese owner app “Wechat” is also getting banned. The banning started on Sunday.
It was rumored that the banning will go into effect 2 months from now on November 12th. This is until Tiktok figures out a way to convince the president that the app is no threat and means no harm in any way.
For users who already have the app installed, Tiktok will not be deleted. Tiktok will be banned from the app stores and will no longer be up for download to others who didn’t already have it. After November 12th if it is banned, the app will not be able to be updated.
What are the effects of the ban?
The effects of the banning of Tiktok is extreme, especially in the entertainment and music fields. There are many users on the app, that make a living and profit off of it and many aspiring artists promoting their music. If the app is banned, many social media influencers can lose their source of income, especially during the pandemic would be rough.
Josh Gartner’s, Tiktok’s spokesman addressed the situation in a recently made statement.
“We will continue to challenge the unjust executive order, which was enacted without due process and threatens to deprive the American people and small businesses across the U.S. of a significant platform for both a voice and livelihoods” Garten states.
