This Tiktok Trend Has To Be The Deadliest So Far…

What is the Benadryl Challenge?

Tiktok has to be one of the most influential and popular social media platforms in today’s app stores. Gen Z has to be the riskiest/carefree generation ever for many reasons such as embarrassing President Trump after purchasing tickets to his rally where most did not show up. If you put those two together, they are a force to be reckoned with.

Gen Z is known for challenging others to do the extreme. From the salt and ice, tide-pod, fire and alcohol, cinnamon challenge, the mickey mouse challenge, and the challenge where two people trip someone once they jump in the air. Unfortunately, the latest challenge has to be the most dangerous one to ever come to play. It’s the  “Benadryl Challenge”. Users are challenged to take over the recommended amount of Benadryl in order to hallucinate and post their experience with Tiktok.

What do the experts have to say about this new Tiktok Trend?

The recommended dosage of Benadryl for adults is six pills within a 24 hour period of time. The challenge requires participants to intake over a dozen pills at one time. Scott Schaeffer, Director of the Oklahoma Center For Poison and Drug Information stated that “large doses of Benadryl can cause seizures and, particularly, problems with the heart. The heart tends to go out of rhythm and not pump blood effectively.”.

Many have questioned how TikTok could allow this form of violent content to be spread on its platform. The app did eventually remove every video pertaining to the Benadryl challenge once it began last May, however teens still participate in similar trending challenges that really are harmful.

TikTok’s previous challenge has also caused many deaths too.

The Blue Whale Challenge, which has been linked to over 100 deaths in Russia, encourages teens to take part in a series of 50 tasks which include self-harming and eventually taking their own life. The “game” involves a man dressed as Mickey Mouse who threatens teenagers into taking part in the challenge. The “game” has evolved since it first appeared in 2016 and now involves the image of a man dressed as Mickey Mouse or a dog using the name Jonathan Galindo.

The game and the “Jonathan Galindo” image have been compared to the Momo challenge, a viral phenomenon in 2018 which is now believed to be a hoax.
