Happy Birthday to the Human Beatbox!
Douglas Davis, known to the hip-hop world as Doug E Fresh, is celebrating his 54th birthday today. Doug E Fresh is known as “the greatest entertainer” in Hip Hop. His ability, to rap, dance, and perform his original human beatbox is what has made him one of the most important figures to the culture.

In the early 80s, Doug E Fresh started the Get Fresh Crew and recruited MC Ricky D aka Slick Rick. The two created the legendary songs “The Show” and “La-Di-Da-Di”. “La-Di-Da-Di” was a human beatbox powered xxx-rated song that gained the two respect as pioneers in the hip-hop culture. The song has been sampled throughout the years from artists such as Snoop Dogg.
It’s Virgo Season!
In 2004, Nas dropped the track “Virgo” featuring Atlanta’s Ludacris and the beatbox legend himself Doug E Fresh. The song was originally included on Nas’ Street Disciple and was later found on Ludacris’ album Red Light District. The beatbox-driven song was produced by Salaam Remi. Over the sounds of Doug E Fresh’s beatboxing, Nas kicks off the song reminiscing about a ‘rendezvous’ with a lady friend, while Ludacris jumps into the second verse talking about his “x-rated mischief”.
