Terry Crews vs. Magic City
In another crusade that no one asked for, Terry Crews has called for a boycott of world-famous gentleman’s club, Magic City. The Atlanta establishment is home to some of the nation’s premier performers and has long been one of the south’s most-visited attractions. It not only a center for entertainment but is also home to some amazing culinary experiences. Terry Crews took to Twitter last week to call for a boycott of Magic City with the hashtag #blacklovematters. This tweet was unprompted and it left everyone asking why? The biggest question remains, why not call attention to larger issues currently plaguing America? The shooting of Jacob Blake is still fresh in everyone’s memory, hurricane Laura has devastated the American South and we are on the cusp of a monumental election yet Magic City is Terry Crew’s main concern. This is not the first time he has been questioned about his motives when he takes a public stand against issues facing the nation.
My tweet yesterday however well intentioned, was ill-timed.
I pray for the many women trapped and trafficked in the life of the sex industry and see no way out. I want them to know they are not product to be used, but People to be loved.

Terry Crews vs. Black Lives Matter
Back in June of this year, Terry Crews posted a tweet that was punctuated by the statement, “We must ensure #blacklivesmatter doesn’t morph into #blacklivesbetter.” This was again met with frustrated and angry responses from people on Twitter. This even prompted a reply from Martin Luther King Jr.’s daughter Bernice saying, “We’re so far from that bridge, Terry.” It seems that the film star has missed the point of the movement, and continues to take missteps. He may be trying to send a message of equality to his fans but with the current state of policing in America, a broken justice system, and housing discrimination, among many, many more things, this tipping point does not seem to be coming anywhere in the near future.
If you are a child of God, you are my brother and sister. I have family of every race, creed and ideology.

Read The Room
As well-intentioned as Terry may want to be, his efforts are coming up short and are often coming across as a tone-deaf attempt to raise awareness to whatever issue he is trying to champion. His concerns may or may not be valid, but there is a time and a place for everything.
