Snoop Dogg’s producer recently received a pardon by Donald Trump. On Tuesday, December 22 the businessman turned president signed off on papers that let Snoop Dogg’s producer Weldon Angelos be a free man. The pardon has declared a 55-year sentence.
In 2017, Snoop Dogg supported what Angelos was doing and called it a “hustle”
Back in 2017, Snoop Dogg commented on Angelos’ case saying, “He had to provide means for his family and himself. It wasn’t like it was a violent crime he was committing, he was just hustling.” While Angelos commented, “Feels great to have been fully pardoned by the President of the United States. Now it’s time for more pardons and commutations.”
Even though Angelos had 13 charges, he was originally given a 15-year plea
Snoop Dogg’s producer was given 13 charges including drug possession, money laundering, and unauthorized firearm violations. In 2004, Angelos was sentenced to 55 years included with mandatory minimums, which were created to deter individuals from drug trafficking.
He was originally offered a plea deal that would have brought down his 55 years to 15 years but he refused to cooperate with the police in hopes to arrest any other offenders. At first, he was scheduled to be released in 2015. Judge Paul Cassell wrote a letter to President Barack Obama, in 2016, stating: “The sentence was unjust, uncruel, and even irrational…because his appeals have been exhausted, the only solution for Angelos is a Presidential commutation. I urge you to swiftly commute his sentence.”
In 2017, Barack Obama commuted his sentence and the decision ended his time behind bars but will permanently be shown as a conviction on his record.
Just last week, Trump’s full pardon dismissed the felony from his record and fully restored his rights as a United States citizen. Angelos was quick to celebrate and took to social media to make an announcement. “Feels great to have been fully pardoned by the President of the United States. Now it’s time for more pardons and commutations” he wrote on Instagram.
