Metro Boomin declared that deluxe editions are dead upon the release of Savage Mode II: Chopped Not Slopped.
21 Savage and Metro Boomin’s newest collaborative effort just received an official re-release. However, unlike most “deluxe albums,” which have recently included another album’s length of songs, Savage Mode II got a chopped and screwed edition.
The remix was delivered by none other than the legendary Houston DJ and OVO signee OG Ron C.

“Chopped up not slopped up tonight paying homage to the OGs and classic hip hop,” tweeted Metro, along with the new purple-tinted album cover. “That deluxe shit burnt out #RIPDJSCREW.” He also shouted out Houston and announced he was looking for a house there.
Deluxe editions have become a staple of hip-hop releases in 2020, with artists such as Lil Baby, DaBaby, Gunna, Lil Wayne, Moneybagg Yo and G Herbo jumping on the trend this year. Most credit the recent boom in deluxe editions to Lil Uzi Vert, who released Luv Is Rage 2 only a week after his long-awaited Eternal Atake.
Shoutout H Town I’m finna find a house out there 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾

The chopped and screwed style originated with DJ Screw in Houston and is characterized by a slowed-down tempo, beat repeats, and record scratches. The sound has also become synonymous with codeine syrup.
OG Ron C has had a prolific career making chopped and screwed remixes, however, he refers to them as “chopped not slopped” with respect to DJ Screw who passed away in 2000. He helped start the careers of Chamillionaire, Slim Thug, Mike Jones, and Paul Wall, has worked with A$AP Rocky, and has sold over 22,000,000 mixtapes and albums to date.
With or without the chopped and screwed edition, Savage Mode II has exceeded all expectations. The album debuted at no. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with over 170,000 units in its first week. Last week it dropped to no. 2 after barely missing the top spot to Pop Smoke’s three-month-old posthumous album. Every single song also managed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, with two songs reaching the top 10.
