A couple of days ago, female artist Megan thee Stallion revealed on her IG Live that Tory Lanez was the person who shot her last month.

Prior to Megan Thee Stallion confirming the rumors, there appears to be a recognizable split in the music industry. Though the Houston native received an outpouring of support from celebrities Michael B. Jordan, Halle Berry, Chance the Rapper and Asian Da Brat, there’s still a great deal of silence from influential males in the hip hop game. We must protect our black women.

State of Careers

The fans have watched the Megan Thee Stallion emerged as a rising female artist. In less than 2 years, she woken up the music industry with the Hot Girl Movement. She signed with Roc Nation Management. Then, joined forces with the top music influences Nicki Minaj, Beyoncé, Cardi B and Dababy.  She has partnered up with fellow brands Coach, Crunchyroll, Savage X Fenty and Revlon.  Is her success well-versed enough to earn the respect from fellow peers, who can support her during her time of demise?

Meanwhile, no one has seen aggressive accountability steered towards Tory Lanez  or his career other than being dropped from recent collabs with Kehlani and Jojo. The future of his digital content, Quarantine Radio, is still unknown but not off the table to expand.

The Underlying Issue

Since the shooting, social media has embraced the situation with memes and rumors against Megan Thee Stallion, who was the victim. Some even viewed her confession on social media as an act of “snitching”  which questions her “street credibility”. Yet, the bigger issue to call attention to is how this black woman wasn’t protected by the industry?

Bun B, hip hop pioneer and influencer of the South,  broke his silence yesterday during his IG live about the recent developments.

The hip hop community have used it platform to bring more awareness about Black Lives matter. Yet,  it disregard the pain of a black woman in their immediate circle.  A black woman, who was protecting a black man, who didn’t protect her.

No statement has been released by Tory Lanez at this time.
