Nike Will Introduce Mamba Week
The sports world is still dealing with the biggest death tragedy it has ever faced. To call the death of Kobe aka the Black Mamba and his daughter Gigi a shock would be an understatement. The January 26th helicopter crash claimed the life of Kobe, his daughter, and seven other passengers. Upon hearing the shocking news, the NBA rescheduled a game that was due to be played between the L.A Lakers and Clippers a few nights after the crash.
There really is no playbook on how to deal with situations like this. Around the league, teams purposely took a 24-second shot clock violation, while the other team took an 8-second backcourt violation to honor the legend and his two respective numbers. The whole world was in mourning.
Kobes legacy is a legacy that won’t be soon forgotten. There are still Kobe murals all around the world. Basketball fans and the NBA community are ensuring that Kobes legacy lives on forever. You can also add Nike to the list of people who will work hard to ensure his legacy lives on. On August 23rd, Nike will dedicate the entire week to Kobe, and entitle it “Mamba Week”. On the first day, they will release the Kobe 5 Proto “Big Stage Parade”. On the 24th, Nike will release the same shoe with a Laker colorway. Nike will also release a limited number of Kobe jerseys.
Kobe will forever be remembered as one of the best players to ever play ball. And judging by his off the court work, he was on his way to be just as legendary off the court as he was on it.
