Miami Heat vs Indiana Pacers Game 3 Recap

The 2020 NBA Playoffs chug along with The Heat vs Pacers.

124-115 Miami

On paper, these two teams seemed evenly matched. The Miami Heat and the Indiana Pacers were 2-0. As of this article, they are now 3-0. Much like the other series in this year’s playoffs, no team has come back from down 3.

A deeper look.

The Pacers and Heat are both a collection of role players that understand their game. They even both proven go-to scores that can take the last shot with the game on the line. Here’s the difference though. The Heat’s Jimmy Butler and the Pacer’s Victor Oladipo are in two different places in their careers. Oladipo is coming off a major injury and Butler is his pride. The 30-year-old Jimmy Butler came to Miami in free agency this past summer and brought a winning culture with him. Teams like Miami and Indiana thrive off a team-first mentality. Ball movement and everyone getting a chance to shine on the court. Yet here we are at 3-0, with the Heat having the advantage.

Miami had four different players score over 20 points, along with late-game heroics from Jimmy Butler. The Pacers give a great effort until the very end, but their star, Oladipo didn’t step up to the same degree Jimmy did. Before the injury, Victor was able to drive and collapse the defense for easy kick-outs to open teammates. That Victor didn’t show up tonight. The version of Victor we saw on display was standing in the corner waiting for a spot-up three. The aggression just wasn’t there. A good team effort can be matched but having a true closer puts a “good team” over the edge. This is in no way a slight at Victor Oladipo, but a sad commentary of poor timing. The Pacers ran into a better team at the wrong time.

With the series now 3-0, it’s safe to assume the Miami Heat will advance to the next round. Don’t sleep on the Pacers next year though. A healthy Oladipo is a different Indiana.
