Ludacris plays Eldridge Buultjens in the movie who is an African-American man adopting a white foster child while being in an interracial relationship. When the trailer came out many of Luda’s fans took to Twitter to express their disapproval of the role.
Do y’all ever grow weary of creating narratives that make the perpetrators look like the victim?

Audience Demands a Different Narrative
With the racial tension and inequality heightened in 2020, African-Americans have voiced their frustrations with how America devalues their lives no matter what is done. For some African-Americans, there is a belief that their Caucasian counterparts should do more to acknowledge the discrimination present in the US.
Many fans view movies like The Ride as another attempt to place the task of explaining and mending the gap of racism on African-Americans who are oppressed. The move to star in The Ride seems like a stark contrast from his animated series coming with Netflix.
Seeing the trailer triggered Ludacris’ fans who believe this type of story is played out. The Ride is set to stream on Amazon Prime on November 13th and also features Shane Graham, Sasha Alexander, and Alexander Davis as foster child John McCord. The risk may not be worth the reward for Ludacris taking this role.
