Lil Jon helps keep live music going despite Covid-19

A pandemic may be ensuing, but that won’t stop SKAM Artist founder and CEO, Sujit Kundu, from throwing a birthday blowout. Kundu is the agent and gatekeeper to some of the world’s hottest DJs and artists and has been throwing a birthday festival for them every year since his 21st. This year marks its 25th anniversary.

For 24 hours, 24 DJs from around the globe will perform live via Twitch. The event began last night at 8 pm EST. Lil Jon is set to headline the festivities with other performances from Pete Wentz, Samantha Ronson, Irie, Chase B, Baby Yu, Crooked, DJ Five, Eric DLux, Ever, Gusto, Jerzy, Justin Credible, Lezlee, Quiz, Richard Vision, Ross One, Sour Milk, Trauma, Triple XL, Bliss.

While COVID-19 shifted how talent agencies such as SKAM Artist do business, they have consistently kept their roster booked on Instagram Live and other digital platforms. Kundu’s vast clientele includes Tyga, Taryn Manning, Brooke Evers, LA Leakers, Nick Cannon, Amber Rose, and Blac Chyna, as well as all the festival’s performers. Live music in the age of quarantine.

Sujit Kundu and Lil Jon are not the only people to organize live streaming concerts. Since March, artists of all genres have flocked to services such as Twitch, Instagram, and Youtube to make back revenue they would have otherwise acquired through touring. Gunna performed with a live band on an LA rooftop, and Post Malone streamed a Nirvana tribute with Travis Barker.

Later this week Lil Uzi Vert looks to do things a little differently. On Thursday, Live Nation is hosting a full concert set by the Eternal Atake rapper from a yet-to-be-named “historical” venue. Tickets are $15, and the show will be his first concert since his back-to-back albums earlier this year.

Megan Thee Stallion is doing something similar on Saturday. Her show will be her first virtual performance ever.
