Hill Makes History Again
With over 10,000,000 units, Lauryn Hill’s “The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill” is now a diamond album. That means Hill is now the first female rapper to reach that level.
The Recording Industry Association of America took to Twitter to announce this amazing, impressive news a couple of days ago on February 16th.
“Welcome to the RIAA Diamond Club Ms. Lauryn Hill!” they wrote on Twitter. “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is now a [diamond] (10X) certified album!”
Lauryn says that her goals for Miseducation were met and how it turned out the way she wanted it to.
“I think my intention was simply to make something that made my foremothers and forefathers in music and social and political struggle know that someone received what they’d sacrificed to give us,” she says.
She continues to talk about how she set a new standard and how she felt like she had to, so The Miseducation helped her to do so.
“and to let my peers know that we could walk in that truth, proudly and confidently,” she says to Rolling Stone. “At that time, I felt like it was a duty or responsibility to do so… I challenged the norm and introduced a new standard. I believe The Miseducation did that and I believe I still do this — defy convention when the convention is questionable.”
Lauryn’s Success
Hill has so much success throughout her eventful career, she made unforgettable history that made such an impact on the industry. There were countless moments, but one that really stuck out was the 41st Grammy Awards.
Her single album had received 10 nominations that night and took half of the trophies home out of the 10. It was so big at the time and it still is because then no woman has received that great number of nominations and awards for one night.
