Jaden Smith’s Name Switch Up

Jaden Smith made the decision to change his name for his musical career around a year ago. Nobody really understood why but recently in an Apple Music and Zane Lowe interview, he explains why he made that decision.

The Explanation

Jaden Smith explains how he felt when his sister changed her name. He was extremely inspired by her decision and felt the new name was ‘strong’. “I realized that Willow changed her name to Willow at some point in time. And that she was no longer Willow Smith. Yeah, it took me a while. It took me a while because if you look Willow Smith up, it’ll still come up. But then it took me a while to see it was just Willow. And I was like, ‘Yo that’s so strong’.”, Jayden comments about his sister.

Jaden then adds on how he creates different characters for himself and how different the name change is. “I create different characters for myself and that’s also one of the reasons I love Bowie so much, but I create different characters for myself it’s like, Jaden, that’s music and Jaden Smith, that’s 501(c)(3), that’s acting in movies. I wanted to just make that little distinction there, just a little bit so that I could just…different things are happening,” Jaden deeply explains. Jaden also says this name change can help separate his music career from his business career.

Inspiration from other celebrities

Jaden isn’t the first to make this move as other famous families have done this as well. Famous celebrities like Rhianna also made this move. Rhianna uses her last name [business-wise] for her makeup empire, Fenty Beauty.

How do you guys like Jaden’s name switch?
