Drizzy Postpones Album Release
Drake posted some news that may upset his fans as he has pushed back the release of his new album Certified Lover Boy. On his Instagram Wednesday (January 20) night, Drake posted that he would be focusing on rehabbing his knee following surgery on his ACL.
“I was planning to release my album this month, but between surgery and rehab, my energy has been dedicated to recovery,”
Certified Lover Boy was scheduled to drop sometime in January. The album’s lead single “Laugh Now Cry Later” featuring Lil Durk was highly popular throughout 2020 and served as a great lead off for Drake’s sixth studio albums.
If the rest of Certified Lover Boy is like “Laugh Now Cry Later” Drake will have another album filled with chart-topping hits. The single from the upcoming album dropped in August of 2020 and debuted at number two on the Billboard Hot 100.
Over the past few days, there have also been reports that several tracks that were supposed to be on Certified Lover Boy have been leaked.
The pushing back of the album release allows Drake to not only focus on rebuilding his health but potentially allows him to record or pick other content from his catalog that has not been leaked.
The last full-length project Drake gave fans was the Dark Lane Demo Tapes in 2020. Released in May of 2020, Dark Lane Demo Tapes was classified as a mixtape but was still filled with many charting songs.
Jams like “Toosie Slide”, “When to Say When”, and “Chicago Freestyle” helped to put Drake in a favorable position with his fans even without an album officially out.
The end of Drake’s Instagram story said that Certified Lover Boy would still be dropping at some point in 2021. Fans and supporters hope he makes a speedy recovery.
