Considering the instability and volatility from the last two years, many have been wishing for simpler times. Fortunately, it appears that longstanding radio personality Donnie Simpson will be assisting with the revival of nostalgia.
According to Vibe, Simpson announced the comeback of his iconic soul music show, Video Soul, via Twitter and Instagram on Wednesday. From 1981 through the mid-’90s, the immensely popular show, presented by him and Sherry Carter, ran on BET and contained interviews and performances from a range of notable R&B and soul artists.

“I can’t tell you how many people over the years have suggested that I bring it back,” Simpson captioned.
“I told them I would and today it’s official. Donnie Simpson’s Video Soul is live and free on Tubi right now. (Link in bio) This is a huge day for me because it represents the first time I have ownership of my own show,” continued Simpson

According to Complex, another classic BET show will be returning to viewers. Big Tigger, a popular radio talk show host, and rapper, also confirmed the comeback of Rap City, a show he formerly hosted that featured interviews and dj sets from some of the hip-most hop’s popular performers.
“This is not a drill… This is not a throwback… #RapCity21 ‼️Details soon… #RapCityRaisedMe #ATL,” Big Tigg wrote in his post on social media.
While there are little information about the potential revival, BET and ViacomCBS have reportedly been considering it for several years. In addition to Big Tigg’s statement, BET also teased the return of the beloved show with an online teaser.
While a release date for Rap City ’21 has yet to be announced, Tubi now will have the first six episodes of Video Soul free to stream.
