Election day is right around the corner, which means pandering to the Black community will be at an all-time high. Donald Trump held a campaign event in Atlanta this past Friday. The topic of the event was, was Trump speaking about his plan form Black economic empowerment.
Former NFL running back Herschel Walker delivered the opening speech. Most of Herschel’s speech was spent spewing the same rhetoric that Trump spews. He talked about the unemployment rates for African Americans, as Trump often does, however, he never mentioned the inequality in the pay gaps. Coincidentally, Trump always ignores the inequality in the pay gaps for African Americans as well.
Trump is not only predicting a 2nd term win, but he is also suggesting that he will have a record number of votes from the African American community. The “plan” that Trump has for the Black community has labeled “The platinum plan”. He described it as “A contract with Black Americans, and it’s going to be something that people talk about for a long time to come”. He went on to say “We will create three million new jobs for the Black community, open 500,000 new Black-owned businesses, increase access to capital in the Black community by 500 billion” When speaking on creating jobs, he once again left out the issue of economic inequality. I’m not sure how beneficial creating 3 million minimum wage jobs will be for the Black community.
This presidential race will be a historic one, all the early polls have Trump and Biden neck and neck, so it’s looking like the swing states will play a pivotal role In this year’s election.
