Chadwick Boseman Receives Tribute from Wife

Chadwick Earns Posthumous Award

At the 30th Annual IFP Gotham Awards on Monday (January 11), the late Chadwick Boseman received the Actor’s Tribute award.

Boseman’s wife, Simone Leward Boseman accepted the award on behalf of her husband and delivered a moving tribute.

Chadwick Boseman received the Actor’s Tribute award for his work in the film Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.  In the film, Boseman portrayed a Black Trumpet player named Levee Green who accompanied Ma Rainey played by Viola Davis.

Boseman has also starred in many other roles in his career that have had great relevance in the African American culture.  Some of his biggest roles include being James Brown in the biopic Get On Up!, King T’challa in Marvel’s Black Panther, and Thurgood Marshall in the biopic Marshall.

Chadwick, unfortunately, passed away from a battle with Colon Cancer on August 28, 2020. What makes him such a remarkable person is that Boseman did not stop with his acting endeavors while being affected by cancer.

There have been numerous tributes given on behalf of Boseman since his untimely passing.    Keke Palmer honored the actor with a moment of reflection before the MTV Video Music Awards.

Marvel also paid tribute by creating a compilation reel of  Boseman as the iconic Black Panther.

When Simone describes her husband and his impact in acting, she refers to Chadwick as a “vessel”:

“He was blessed to live many lives within his concentrated one, he developed his understanding of what it meant to be the one, the none, and the all.   A vessel to be poured into and out of,’ he’d said.”

Boseman leaves behind a rich legacy although his time lived was cut short.  In closing Simone Boseman said, “Chad, thank you. I love you. I am so proud of you. Keep shining your light on us,”.
