Kobe Bryant day
This week Orange County supervisors officially voted to declare August 24th “Kobe Bryant Day”. The significance in picking the day 8/24 shows tribute to the two numbers he had while playing in the NBA. He started off with number 8, in 2006 and eventually switched his number to 24. Many NBA fans speculated he picked the number to symbolize that he was better than Michael Jordan, who wore number 23. Kobe never confirmed or denied this claim, but he would say “The 24 is growth from that, physical attributes arent there the way they used to be but, but the maturity level is greater. Marriage, kids. Start having a broader perspective being one of the older guys on the team now, as opposed to being the youngest.”.
Kobes’s birthday is August 23rd, so Kobe Bryant day will fall on the day after his birthday. The committee said their intent is to encourage others to continue his legacy. They intend to continue Bryant’s legacy by engaging in community building, helping young people in need, encouraging aspiring youth to follow their dream, and living by Bryant’s words: “The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great in whatever they want to do.”.
