George Floyd Memorial Foundation “Be His Legacy”
In January 2021, the “Be His Legacy” internship program will be released. The “Be His Legacy” program is a project created by the George Floyd Memorial Foundation, founded by Floyd’s family, and Texas A&M University-Commerce African American Male Mentorship Program.
“We are honored to launch the “Be His Legacy” internship in conjunction with Texas A&M University at Commerce,” Bridgett Floyd says, president of the George Floyd Memorial Foundation, and sister of George Floyd.
“As we focus on communities, equity, education, and police reform, we are excited to have students interested in these areas help us move the work forward in honor of my brother, George Floyd,” Bridgette continues.
What is the “Be His Legacy” Program?
The “Be His Legacy Program,” consists of a total of 2 semesters. The interns enrolling will work in an attempt to get rid of the police brutality we have been seeing this year and to work towards justice.
This is an amazing opportunity for Black men within our community to get involved. It is also great for those interested in justice work and much more.
“The vision of the ‘Be His Legacy’ internship program is to offer a one-of-a-kind experience for our Black men interested in all aspects of civic engagement, education, and justice – from voter engagement and education to PR and marketing, to lobbying and fundraising,” Jason Douglas says, who works for A&M-Commerce Office of Intercultural Engagement & Leadership and adjunct faculty of the College of Innovation & Design, as the associate director.
The program will help form a paved pathway to a successful career in the future for AAMP students. This will help Black males gain skills and to become bigger people, and leaders.
If you are interested in this internship, you must be a current AAMP student (junior, senior, graduate student.) You will also have to complete an application and interview! It will all be worth it in the end!
