6lack is the latest artist, from The Beatles to Gunna, to perform from a rooftop.
6lack has partnered with YouTube, Interscope and LVRN Records to stream a performance “Live From The Ledge,” with the Atlanta cityscape as his backdrop. The homecoming concert will feature songs from his most recent 6pc Hot EP, as well as other songs from his discography. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. ET on Friday August, 28th.
According to Respect Magazine, the performance from a rooftop helipad will also feature a giant billboard screen that will pay homage to Atlanta, and project imagery from the recent widespread protests for racial justice.
“When YouTube came to us with the idea for a “Live from the Ledge” performance in my home city with a creative integrating social justice,” explains 6LACK, “me and my team at LVRN was excited to collaborate with them on a performance like this that has never been done before.”
The performance will only be on 6black’s YouTube page for 72 hours following the performance.
6black is not the only artist to find creative ways to perform during coronavirus.
As previously reported, Lil Jon live streamed a DJ set to Twitch during a 24 hour digital music festival last weekend. Likewise, Live Nation recently teamed up with Lil Uzi Vert and Megan Thee Stallion to produce live streaming concerts from apparently iconic venues. Live Nation has not released many details on these shows, however each cost $15 to watch. Uzi performs tonight, August 27, at 6 p.m. while Megan performs Saturday, August 29. Tickets can be found here and here, respectively.
These shows are an exciting step up from the webcam performances that dominated in spring and early summer. Hopefully the high production quality provided by YouTube and Live Nation turns shows such as these into commonplace events until fans and artists can return to live venues.
