2021 Golden Globe Awards Recap

Chadwick Boseman, Andra Day, & Daniele Kaluuya Win at 78th Golden Globes


Sunday night(February 28) the The Hollywood Foreign Press Association hosted the 78th annual Golden Globe Awards.  The ceremony took place remotely from the Rainbow Room in New York City and the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.

The Golden Globes honors several standout television shows and movies along with the cast and prodution members that make performances unforgetable.

The night reached it’s climax as the late Chadwick Boseman won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture following his performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.  Chadwick’s widow, Taylor Simone Ledward accepted the award on behalf of her husband.

Andra Day won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture thanks to her role as Bille Holiday in the biographical The United States vs. Billie Holiday.  

Danielle Kaluuya also scored an award for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his role as Fred Hampton in the film Judas and the Black Messiah.

During his acceptance speech Kaluuya critiqued the Golden Globes for the technical difficulties that prevented his acceptance speech from being heard when he was originally announced as the winner.

Kaluuya smiled and pointed at the camera saying “You’re doing me dirty!”.  Kaluuya’s speech was finally heard by the audience and he payed homage to Chaiman Fred Hampton and quoted Nipsey Hussle when refering to his effort for acting in the moive.

Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, and Jon Batiste won Best Original Score for Soul starring Jamie Foxx.  Soul also won the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature Film.

In television, John Boyega won a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series due to his contributions to the show Small Axe.
