“We are so excited to be a part of this show. HBCUs are such an important part of our culture and the annual homecoming tradition just can’t be stopped. We are honored to partner with YouTube and Live Nation to bring all the excitement of an HBCU Homecoming weekend to a virtual world stage.”
The live event premieres Saturday, October 24 at 8 pm ET / 5 pm PT on YouTube.
BET is serving as a broadcast partner simultaneously airing the event at 8 pm ET/PT. Produced by Jesse Collins Entertainment and Live Nation Urban, the event was announced last week as part of a global slate of new projects that focus on racial injustice, the enhancement of Black voices, and improving Black culture.
HBCU’s across America were all urged to discontinue Homecomings due to COVID-19. Live-streaming for 2 hours, 50% of all proceeds raised will go to the United Negro College Fund while the remaining 50% will go to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.
Jackson State University’s Sonic Boom of The South is set to make an appearance as well. Viewers can expect additional appearances from students, alumni, YouTube creators, as well as a slew of inspirational video packages representing the Black legacy.
Google has made a $1M investment in the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, in support of HBCU communities.
In addition to funds collected from the live-stream, the Thurgood Marshall College Fund received $1M from Google in an effort to educate Black students entering the workforce through digital skills training.
